Today I got to do a Besame lipstick review – my awesome friend Courtney brought me these lipstick samples last night. She is also a big makeup fan and she had been telling me about Besame Cosmetics, which does vintage style makeup. They are a small brand based in Southern California. I hadn’t heard of them before she told me, so I was very excited that she brought them for me to try out! I checked out the website and they have some beautiful things. I especially love the packaging – and the prices are very reasonable in my opinion. Certainly comparable, if not cheaper than some well know high end brands. Anywhoo, the colors I got to test are Carmine, Merlot, and Besame Red. Carmine is a warm orangey red, Besame Red is a sort of classic, blue based bright red, and Merlot is a beautiful dark plum red. I couldn’t find Merlot on the website, so I am not sure if it is discontinued or out of stock. I found it on Amazon, though – here.
My samples are in these little round plastic pots, which is actually a ton of product. I really would love to order some lipsticks, because they are soooo beautiful, but honestly these little lipstick pots will last me forever. I used a lip brush to apply them, and I found it very easy.
They have sort of a traditional lipstick texture – not super creamy. They are very pigmented and have a satin-matte finish. Not extremely shiny but not all the way matte either. I put concealer around the edges of my lips, and then a tiny bit of balm on them before I applied the lipstick. (My lips tend to be dry.) I applied two thin coats of lipstick. I am pleasantly surprised that the lipsticks are not drying on me – they are slightly moisturizing. And I love the colors. Even the blue based one, Besame Red, looks lovely. I usually prefer warmer colors. The Merlot applied a little patchily – possibly I will try to set it with a light dusting of translucent powder between coats next time.
Here they are side by side!
I am super happy with these! I think they will be getting plenty of wear. I hope to use them up so I can have an excuse to order some of the beautiful full sized lipsticks! And big thanks to Courtney for bringing them over for me too! <3
